"If Putin won't promote homosexuality, we will"

Russia has passed a law making it a crime to ‘promote’ homosexuality. This has legitimised homophobic attacks and made life miserable for Russian LGBT people.

So when James Kemp set up Homopromo I was really happy to design a poster and help organise the event. It's an open invitation for creative people around the world to design posters protesting against Russia's anti-gay laws. The posters are displayed on the Homopromo tumblr for all the world to see.

On 20th May 2014 at Shoreditch Village Hall we held the first exhibition and auction of selected prints. The comedian Jen Brister was the auctioneer and we raised over £2000 on the night for gay rights charity Stonewall in support of their work for LGBT equality in Russia.

On the night we filled the gallery, people stuck their hands in the air, and fortunately parted with their cash. It was a hugely successful event.
