Brighton & Hove Coaster
Brighton & Hove, part of the Go-Ahead Group, run scenic bus routes from the city into the South Downs National Park. These had seen a sales plateau, and the Commercial Director wanted a compelling branded campaign to tell a story about why people should go for days out along the coast.
I researched both the main attractions and also hidden gems along the route, and created a series of illustrations to be printed on huge vinyls on the buses. Combined with simple, catchy, consistent copy, and a bright, limited colour palate, sympathetic to the location and context on the bus exterior, these ads made a bold and engaging splash. Having fulfilled the brief of designing six of these, the client loved them so much he requested twelve more. A selection are shown below.
A huge increase in sales, as well as creating a talking point amongst customers for highly valued word of mouth success, has resulted in the client repeating the formula for two other routes in the subsequent months and coming back to me personally for his designs. This year they are nominated in the UK Bus Awards.
